5 Golden Plover back in the usual roost and a group of 4 Stonechat near by.

Viewing from Lakeside. At 3.30pm a Bittern flew from the western reedbeds, right past the hide (whoever was in there must have had a brilliant view!), and dropped into the reedbed i/f of the Retreat House. Male Mandarin and Shelduck on the pontoons.

4 Little Egrets flew low SW through the 'Pennorth Gap' into the Usk valley this morning.

Impressive movement of House Martins along the line of the Usk at Llangynidr this morning at 9.30. Many hundreds of birds feeding in a tall spiral. Buzzard and 2 Raven present.

Second visit to two BTO Tawny Owl Survey tetrads tonight - single male calling from Held Wood.

Two Little Egrets on far shore from Llangasty. Single Whinchat and Stonechat in meadowsweet below Ty Mawr.

Only 10 Snipe in the WeBs count, 18 Mipit and 3 Skylark still around the count area but no Stonechat seen anywhere. Later during a brief stop at Llangorse 10 Gadwall including 3 drakes that were vocally displaying to a duck, 2 Wigeon, 2 Hobby and a (the) Shelduck on the crannog island.

Hobby flew west over house at 8.30 in exactly the same line as my sighting on Sept 5th, same bird I guess.

River Wye - 23 species including Chiff Chaff, 2 Kingfishers, approx 120 House Martins over 2 fields beside Llyswen School and 70 (seventy)+ Mandarin Ducks, 2 Goosanders and 2 Little Egrets in flight. I wont go into which bank of the Wye all these were on, or closest to, I know how B&R rivalry can be.
