A female Garganey was at Llangasty. Over the other side the LS Woodpecker was still drumming around the sailing club buildings and 38 Barnacle Geese had returned to the Acorn field.

First chiffchaff of the year in the garden at 2pm. Still many birds on the feeders with up to 30 Siskin at a time. Apart from the loss of the daily Marsh Tit to a male Sparrowhawk this has been a very good birding winter in our garden. No Orange Tips but a number of Painted Ladies around today.

Entry added by: Steve Wilce on Mon 18th March 19, 02:06pm Sighting location: Llangors lake. Sighting date: 18/03/19
This morning; the characteristic weak drumming of a Lesser Pecker heard clearly from the trees around the sailing club buildings - but it's frustratingly difficult to get near because of the flood water. Later from the bird hide a large female Goshawk flying low over the water and trying in vain to spook wildfowl into the air, also six Sand Martins on the lake and six Common Redpolls in the Alders just to the right of the hide.

Good views of the female Red-br Merganser and drake Scaup close in to the Crannog Hut at lunchtime today. Beware depth of floodwater! Also 29 Curlew on 'Acorn Field' but no sign of the Gann-ringed bird.
