A short walk revealed good numbers of House Sparrows in two flocks - 180 on an old muck-heap, and another 40 in the margins of a wheat crop. Also 5-6 Swift flew south, and 40 H Martins caught insects in the lee of a wood.

An Osprey was present @ 9-30am this morning, for 10 mins before flying south.

An adult Hobby was on wires at Pennorth this afternoon being mobbed by hirundines.

This afternoon at Llangorse lake there was a juvenile yellow wagtail amongst some of the pied wagtails to the left of the crannog on the shore of the Acorn Outdoor Centre. Approximately 30 pied wagtails on the common and around the shores of the lake. At Llangasty-Talyllyn there were 11 lapwings, 2 little ringed plovers, 2 ringed plovers, a snipe flew west over the lake, Canada geese, 2 coots, robin, woodpigeon and a buzzard sat on a telegraph pole between Llangasty-Talyllyn and Cathedine. Hopefully people may see a hobby at Ty-mawr soon. A good walk.

2 churring Nightjars at the south end of Pant Mawr forestry this evening (churring between 21:05-21:15)

Adult Osprey perched on a low alder on east bank 5pm - it flew about dropping to the water to wash, and then back high into a spruce. Presumably waiting for the low cloud to break over the Beacons before moving on south. Also 3 adult Gt Cr Grebe with 2 chicks, 29 Tufted Duck, 70 Mallard, 4 Goosander, Little Egret, 4 Herons, GBBGull, 11 LGrebe. Single Common and Green Sandpipers.

A juvenile Cuckoo was sat on the minor road near the dam, seen again later flushed by walkers in the same area. Nothing exceptional blown in by the overnight winds but 4 Common Sandpipers in the Usk inlet, Goosander, 6 Tufted Duck, 2 Mallard, 12 Cormorant and a gulls from three species

2 Black-tailed Godwit and 3 Ringed Plover (2 adults & 1 juv) were at Llangasty before the Canada Geese arrived including 2 Greylag. 4 Common Tern (3 adult & 1 juv) were being relentlessly harassed by the young BH Gulls. Also a Little Egret and Wigeon.

Single Redshank, Common Sandpiper, Lapwing and two Snipe, but the Wood Sand did not show for me.
