Merlin. More or less on cue for usual Spring/ Autumn passage, hunting roadside hedgerows.

Took the kids to watch the Starlings tonight which put on a good show over the western reedbed. 3 Scaup (2m1f) were in front of the hide and the gull roost included an adult Yellow-legged Gull and 4 Common Gull.

WeBS count this morning (river high just spilling bank in places, many pools flooded): 77 Canadas, 2 Buzzard, 2 Cormorant, 1 Goosander, 5 Grey Heron, 1 Great White Egret, 2 Greylag, 6 Lapwing, 5 Little Egret, 105 Mallard, 2 Mute Swan, 1 Snipe, 1 Teal and (new sinse I have been recording this site) 4 Pintail.

WeBS counts: Ty Mawr pool, 6 Coot, 5 Swans, 5 Goosander, 2 Moorhens, 1 Heron; R Usk from Brynich to Brecon, 34 Mallard, 1 Goosander, 4 Cormorant, 2 Heron, 1 Kingfisher; Canal 71 Mallard.

New WeBS count section with new volunteers this morning. Nice start with 26 Mallard, Kingfisher, Heron, 8 Moorhen, 3 Cormorant, 3 Goosander - high river levels.
