On the Neuadd reservoir path, nr. Nant Yr-hen-heol ( stream ) to the left of the path, south of Cribyn was a male kestrel chasing/hunting house martins and a buzzard over Tor Glas. As I was getting nearer to the summit of Pen y Fan via Craig Cwm Sere, a red kite flew over the summit ( 2,906ft ) heading north and out of sight. I wonder how high ( altitude ) red kites can fly ?. Beautiful mountains.

great to finally get a good look at a Hobby this year - one adult still along the lake shore near Llangasty, and no wonder with the number of dragonflies out today. Some of the hawthorns were positively dripping with Migrant Hawkers, and swarms flying around in sheltered spots by the woodland. Apparently I'm not the only one who struggled to see hobbies this year - it's been an issue across the country I heard. I wonder if it could be related to the widely reported dearth of swallows.

THE ultimate reedbed skulker…… Llangorse Ringing Group report an Aquatic Warbler netted and ringed at 06.30 this morning. 11th county record, all via mistnets. The last Breconshire bird was at the same location virtually a decade ago to the day, but there have been very few in the UK over this 10-yr period.

Entry added by: Mike Warburton on Thu 29th August 19, 10:03pm Sighting location: Mynydd Llangatwg. Sighting date: 29/08/19
16 Red Grouse in total this evening on a wide circuit of the red brick building. Covies of 4,4,5,2 and a single in that order. Very little else aside from singles of Skylark and Meadow Pipit.

Entry added by: Gareth Rees on Tue 27th August 19, 05:10pm Sighting location: Crai. Sighting date: 27/08/19
110-150 House Martins on wires opposite forestry cottages in Glasfynydd forest were probably the birds seen over Fan Brycheiniog yesterday. General observations in August indicate that Swallows are very scarce around farmsteads when by now you would commonly expect to see parties of 20-30 gathering at several properties in the Crai valley. At Crai reservoir a Yellow Wagtail flew over calling (first site record), Crossbill, Green Woodpecker, Song Thrush and 12 House Sparrows along the A4067 there. No obvious butterfly movement but a Small Copper and several Silver Y moths there.
