My Big Garden Birdwatch in Brecon,Saturday,was generally poor but included 2 Bramblings. Siskins reached highest yesterday at 12. Two Blackcaps today. Goshawk over house on Sunday, Peregine today. Chiffchaff at STW yesterday, Kingfisher on river.

Harrier
I havn't identified which though. Its been around all day, made a kill before midday of a mistle thrush. deep tawny brown, purposeful flight. Flown around the res. , down valley towards trecastle. seen both in Powys and Carmthenshire. Unusual bird for this location.

RSPB Birdwatch results for my garden were 39Chaffinch,22 Sparrows,24Bt,9Gt,
5Dunnock,8Golfinch,11Greenfinch,5Blackbird,2Robin,3Nuthatch,2Gs,3Brambling,11Siskin. As I have done the BTO garden birdwatch for some 10years, this is the normal average of birds for the garden apart from the Brambling who have been here now for 3 days.

A flock of 59 Lapwing were present on the pipeline scar. This is the largest flock recorded at this site since Nov 2001. Also 10 Snipe present.

Sighting location: Brecon Canal Basin / Water Treatment Works. Sighting date: 28.1.08
Canal basin - low Mallard count of 157. 4 mute swans, two ringed '7BSZ' and '7CTJ' with unringed mates, unringed birds very aggressive and territorial with '7CTJ' and mate quickly leaving after their arrival. BSTW - c.60 P. Wags, single Goldcrest and a predating male Sparrowhawk. 3 RH Goosander on Usk along Island Fields.

RSPB Garden Bird Watch: 18 species favourites being 5 Redwing, single Marsh Tit and 2 Goldfinch. Sparrowhawk also put in a sucessful appearance.

Big Garden Bird Watch Results - 10 Robins, 6 BlackBirds, 30 JackDaws, 7 Crows, 5 Magpies, 2 Buzzards. Sparrows, Blue tits and Great tits where completely absent!
This was on a piece of 'scrub land' near where I live.
