Sighting location: Various. Sighting date: 26-27th Jan 2008
22 species were recorded on the Forest Fach, Sennybridge, TTV (SN92D) on the 27th, highlights were 2 Woodcock (2nd bird noticably larger than first), 7 Snipe and a pair of Stock Dove in an area where they have been seen in the breeding season.
11 species were recorded on SN83S (Epynt)today. The forestry part was extremely quiet but 3 Crossbill were seen on an adjacent non-TTV square with one of the 2 females collecting nest material.
A late afternoon visit to Y Gors, Trecastle yielded 24 species, the Snipe count equalled the previous record of 96 (2-3 times the previous counts this winter). Interestingly a single Snipe sp was seen moving off (silently) some 4 minutes before the Common Snipe started. I suspect this was a Jack Snipe but no other features could be noted. The Teal count remains very low here at 4-5 birds. A male Kestrel and Peregrine also present and several very large Starling flocks were seen moving towards the Epynt roost.

Sighting location: Chwefri and adjacent Cwm Clyd Valleys. Sighting date: 27th January 2008
A pair of Willlow Tits in the Chwefri Valley and a single of the same species in the Cwm Clyd Valley. Both in suitable damp woodland. There is a BBS in the Chwefri site and neither I nor the other 3 observers who have done this square over the years have ever recorded Willow Tits there before. So it will be interesting to return in the breeding season. I have seen Willow Tits at two sites in north east Carms in the past few days so they seem to be particualrly visible at the moment.
