Blackcap singing in garden this morning at 6.30

Entry added by: Mark Waldron on Wed 25th March 20, 04:41pm Sighting location: Libanus. Sighting date: 25/03/20
A walk from home along the Tarrell at Libanus gave a singing male Blackcap which seemed very early. Also singing 5 Chiffchaff and 4 Goldcrest. I made a count of the rookery nests which are located in three trees along the river. All three threes are occupied this year with a total of 20 nests split 9 at the United Reformed Church, 4 at Libanus Mill and 7 at the water treatment works.

On the lane this morning from Llanfihangel Talyllyn to Talyllyn we rounded a corner and there was a Peacock displaying in the middle of the road. First one I've seen this Spring!

Entry added by: Alan Salter on Mon 23rd March 20, 06:47pm Sighting location: Y Byddwn, Groesffordd. Sighting date: 23/03/20
30 redwing including song, male goshawk, peregrine, skylark and 54 Black-headed Gulls flew over. Mallard and grey wagtails could well be nesting on the reserve along with the usual 2 pairs of chiffchaff. A dipper flew high from the reserve to the River Usk.

Entry added by: Andrew King on Mon 23rd March 20, 02:47pm Sighting location: Hay-on-Wye. Sighting date: 23/03/20
I get some 'funny looks' but rookery counts in the Hay area: Hay Library area = 16, Hay Castle = 6, bottom of Forest Road = 9, Swan Hotel (N) = 4. Glasbury Garage not counted. Gwernyfed School Lodge/drive = 54 nests. Seems these have increased in recent years. Chiffchaff singing, Treecreeper carrying nest material & pr Goosander by the river. Mostly done from the car, so social distancing not compromised.

Entry added by: Mark Waldron on Sat 21st March 20, 06:52pm Sighting location: Llangorse Lake. Sighting date: 21/03/20
Further to Keith's sightings below, viewed from the Llangorse side, David's female Red-brested Merganser was feeding in the flooded field closest to the troll's bridge making good comparisons to the redhead Goosanders there. Also a drake Shelduck (different to the regular female), 22 Curlew including one of the colour ringed birds and a Kingfisher. 35 Barnacle Geese were on the Acorn field with a pair of Oystercatcher in addition to the third one on the SCM.

Entry added by: Keith Noble on Sat 21st March 20, 02:53pm Sighting location: Llangorse Lake. Sighting date: 21/03/20
Four Black-tailed Godwits on SCM with single Redshank, Dunlin, Oystercatcher, 26 Lapwings, 6 Curlew and a Little Egret. Among the Wigeon, Teal and Tufted Ducks, 7 Gadwall, 4 Shoveler and 4 Goosanders. A young Goshawk pursued by a Crow spooked them all. 12 Sand Martins and a Chiffchaff. On the Lake proper, a Pintail pair and Goldeneyes.
