In a flock of around 100 birds, mostly Chaffinch, there were around 15 to 20 Bramblings in a stubbly field on the road up to Mynydd Illtydd. Field is on the left hand side a couple of hundred yards past the Lime Fertiliser buildings.

Entry added by: Mark Waldron on Fri 7th January 11, 08:29am Sighting location: Bronydd / Clyro. Sighting date: 06/01/10
I had a message from Chris Wells yesterday (see below) who had found 9 Bewick and 1 Whooper Swan at Bronydd and another 4 Bewick and 5 Whooper at Clyro. The Whooper’s at Clyro are the same family group that have been there since December, but the other 14 swans (13 Bewick & 1 Whooper) are more than likely the same herd that I saw at Llangorse on 3.1.11. I zoomed in on the photo’s I took of them and the yellow bill patterns are stunted not extending along the bill so it looks like a duff ID by me at the lake - apologies. As they have stayed along the Wye for the past 4 days hopefully they’ll hang around a little longer.

Entry added by: Chris Wells on Thu 6th January 11, 08:51pm Sighting location: Out of County - Bronydd, Clyro and LLowes. Sighting date: 06/01/11
A total of six Whooper Swans (including one first winter) and fourteen Bewick Swans at Clyro and Bronydd. The Whooper minus one adult and four Bewicks were later seen at Llowes. All were very nervous.

Entry added by: Andrew King on Thu 6th January 11, 08:16pm Sighting location: Central Beacons. Sighting date: 06/01/11
Inspired by Gareth's success with Snow Bunting on New Year's Eve, I went in search of them on the Beacons ridges today, covering Penyfan, Corn Du and Cefn Crew. Sadly no success. Surprised to find 3 Skylark up there in 2 tetrads, but nothing else bar scavengers (although tame Raven down to 5 metres was a novelty) and a deep frozen Common Shrew. Around Beacons Res had 11 Crossbill, Green Woodpecker, Woodcock, 3 Mallard and single Cormorant & male Goosander. The effort worthwhile for body and soul though.

Entry added by: John Harper on Wed 5th January 11, 08:10pm Sighting location: Glangrwyney. Sighting date: 05/01/11
River Usk rather high today after rain last night - 1 Dipper only put up along 1km at the Glangrwyney bend.
