Sighting location: Llandefalle Hill / Myn. Fforest / Brecfa Pool. Sighting date: 29/10/10
370 Fieldfare feeding on Llandefalle Hill along with several thousand Starling. 277 Golden Plover were on Myn. Fforest. Quiet at Brecfa Pool with 71 LBB Gull loafing and 4 Skylark feeding in the chapel field with a flock of House Sparrow and Chaffinch.

Hen Harrier[m] flying high west to east over Beacons Reservoir today at 09:15 hrs. Briefly quartered hill east of A470 before proceeding east.

57 Golden Plovers on sunny south-west slope, many invisible until something, perhaps the tractor collecting bracken bales, woke them up. Twelve more flew in.

30 Buzzard worming in their usual field by the Pennorth turning. A Cape Shelduck was at Llangasty along with single Little Grebe, Water Rail and Sparrowhawk.

Thanks Mark - looking at your photo - I now think that they are all Cape Shelduck - I have previously thought that they were Ruddy Shelduck and that the white fronted one was a Cape Shedluck - but it looks like the white fronted one is a female Cape -although the white base to the bill does not appear to fit in with the guidebooks?? They must be escapees - or have been placed on the pond by someone??

Swallow - 1 again near Dolifor in the extreme north of the county - breaks my latest record again. Earlier 400 Redwing passed south down the Wye - my largest group this winter so far. 8 mistle and 4 song Thrush feeding on yew berries at llanwrthwl church
