Sighting location: Penwyllt RW line NR. Sighting date: 30/06/10
Three years ago a walk along Penwyllt RW line would have yielded 3-4 pairs of Stonechat. After the last two winters there are no Stonechat but it was good to see they have been replaced by 2 pairs of Whinchat showing how they compete for the same habitat. Around 50 Dark Green Fritillaries were seen over four 1 km squares with smaller numbers of often worn Small Pearl Bordered Frits in these same sites.

Sighting location: Crai valley. Sighting date: 26/06/10
TTV 82W was covered on Saturday with 44 species noted. It was livened up by a Blackcap incorporating perfect Woodlark mimicry into its song! It was lucky that the habitat was dense deciduous woodland and totally unsuitable for Woodlark otherwise it could have got embarrassing! As it was, it took two visits to eliminate the Woodlark possibility but the second visit added a Marsh Tit family party and my third Spotted Flycatcher nest of the season (NY).

Sighting location: Ystradfellte reservoir. Sighting date: 28/06/10
Two adjacent tetrads, SN91N and P covered today. 27 and 17 species respectively. Wheatear fledglings on both, Redstart fledgling on N but the best record was a chipping Snipe on the slope below Fan Dringarth (SN91P), It is most helpful when they call during daylight, and it seems that 1 p.m. ish in the last week of June is a favoured time for this behaviour.
