Entry added by: Andrew King on Sun 27th June 10, 10:21am Sighting location: Pennorth & Abercrave. Sighting date: 26/06/10
At 8pm last night, a Lesser Whitethroat called twice from a neighbours garden before racing off again, to do the same in the next hedgerow. I have noticed this before in June - presumably a male that has bred elsewhere and believes there might still be sufficient time this summer to find a new mate and initiate a second clutch? Two TTVs earlier in the day around Abercrave confirmed breeding of Sand Martin, Green Woodpecker, Wheatear, S Thrush, P Wagtail and House Sparrow.

Entry added by: Mark Waldron on Sat 26th June 10, 11:06pm Sighting location: Trehenry Farm / Felinfach. Sighting date: 26/06/10
In lanes around Trehenry Farm 4 territories of Yellowhammer and singles of Whitethroat, Skylark, Garden Warbler and Stock Dove. House Martin doing well in Felinfach with 10-12 occupied nests.

Entry added by: Clive Micklewright on Sat 26th June 10, 10:12am Sighting location: Pwll-y-wrach. Sighting date: 26/06/10
Whole range of birds sunbathing together outside our house this morning--bizarre to see them all with wings spread on the ground. Are they just sunbathing or does it help with mites/ parasites of which I guess there are many in this heat and sun?

Entry added by: Gareth Rees on Fri 25th June 10, 11:32pm Sighting location: Defynnog/Libanus. Sighting date: 25/06/10
24 Swift over Defynnog late evening and two Tawny Owl chicks calling around church at 23:00. At a site near Libanus there was a single Glow Worm, almost missed due to green bilominescence of female being masked by a male mating with her. Could not find any here last year so good to find this pair. A lot of Toad activity, with individuals on warm roads at Cathedine earlier and Mountain Centre tonight.

Entry added by: Steve Jones on Mon 21st June 10, 09:40pm Sighting location: Llanwrthwl. Sighting date: 21/06/10
Blue tits layed 9 eggs in a nestbox with a camera under the eaves of an outbuilding in the garden this year. 7 hatched and only 2 survived to fledge, which they did on June 15th. As the birds left the nest a Spotted Flycatcher started building a nest on its roof! She is currently sitting on 4 eggs. There seems to be good numbers of spotted flycatchers around this year - with 6 pairs within the village in various gardens. A Grey Wagtail has 3 chicks in a discarded Dipper box and a Cuckoo was still singing this afternoon.
