Entry added by: Gareth Rees on Wed 2nd June 10, 08:57pm Sighting location: Glyntawe. Sighting date: 01/06/10
46 species in the first of my late breeding season tetrads sessions, in SN81N yesterday. Highlight was a Kingfisher on the Tawe (first in 10 km square), also singles of Cuckoo, Wood Warbler and Pied and Spotted Flycatcher, 17 Willow Warbler, 3 Garden W, 3 Tree Pipit, 7 Redstart, 20-30 House Martin, 3 Swift and 2 Green Woodpecker territories. Of those species likely to have been hit by the winter a single Bullfinch (very scarce so far this spring) and 4 Goldcrest territories were welcome but only 8 Wrens were heard and no Long-tailed Tit. A single pair of Starling were attending young in a nest. Again no Collared Dove were seen in the apparently prime breeding habitat this square offers (remarkably, still not recorded in breeding season in SN81).

A Turkey with six or eight chicks behind her ! This is not a wind up, it seems some were released a few years ago. We have seen the female several times this spring, but last night to my suprise she had chicks at heel.

Thanks to Dave for correcting my grid error - just goes to show I am much more at home dealing with the westerly SN9_ and SN8_s and should take care when crossing into the SOs. At Llangasty yesterday there were 4 summer plumaged Dunlin.
