Water Pipit showing well at 0800 and 1330-1500 hrs on spillway today. Usually in the company of Grey Wagtail and Pied Wagtail. Regular winter visitor has been present since the 13/12/07.

Male Kestrel, 1 or 2 Kites, 2 or 3 Buzzards, feeding flock of several hundred Starlings at farm.

2000+ Brambling came into the forestry to roost at around 3:20. At one point there was a flock of 1000 birds all together in one flock! The birds are in the area of SO1513 and SO1613. Access from Reservoir road (SO163124). Also 5 crossbill.

80% of lake frozen at 08:30am. Better for counting; best counts 28 Shoveler, 9 Gadwall, 88 Wigeon, 45 Cormorant, 12 Lapwing on ice. No time to count diving duck.

c.200 Chaffinch, 4 Brambling feeding in swedes at Maesyron. 4 Woodcock flushed, and 16 Meadow Pipit on MOD Range above Cwm Dwfnant this morning at approx. 0800hrs

1 Red Kite, 1 Raven, 6 Buzzard, 20 Redwing and 28 Blackbird counted on the way down. Also yesterday a flock of 19 LT Tit in Brecon Town centre.

Coming down past Llyn Brianne, this time in the semi-dusk, there were a pair of Mallard at the top bridge and a Woodcock passed over the road at SN814507 (bullseye!! one of the target species). Its always been said that there are no Dippers above Llyn Brianne but there was one coming to roost under the bridge at SN774560. (This is out of county in Ceredigion).
