Female Black Redstart was a good consolation prize for no Common Redstarts this afternoon.Still present at 16.45pm and location exactly as per Grid Ref.Pic in gallery.

Sighting location: Pwll-y-Wrach, Talgarth. Sighting date: 17/04/10
BTO TTV around Pwll-y-Wrach was fairly quiet as the reserve was quite busy today. Best of the bunch were territories of 6 Chiffchaff, 2 each of Nuthatch and Coal Tit, and singles of Marsh Tit, Treecreeper, Blackcap, Mistle Thrush and Raven.

Sighting location: Glyntawe and SN81. Sighting date: 17/04/10
37 species in SN81N this morning included Redstart, Lesser Redpoll and a single pair of Starlings. 2 Pied Flycatcher were at Craig-y-nos. The TTV and drive around Pen-y-cae, Abercrave and Coelbren failed to produce a sighting of a Collared Dove.

Just to comment on the lack of Hirundines around the Usk res... just to odd swallow and sand martin over the last few days and no house martins. There have been at least a pair if not several by this time over the last 10 years... and Swallows well established....................however, Redstarts are busy nestbuilding!

Redstarts and Cetti's Warblers singing at the underwater kissing gate and the stone wall. Taverner's among Canadas at SCM, c50 Teal, Mallard ducklings, Wheatear. At Llangasty 3 Lapwings, 2 LRPs, 1 Yellow Wagtail. On water 4 GCGrebes, a few Gadwall and Tufted.

Sighting location: Cathedine/Bwlch/Cwmdu. Sighting date: 16/04/10
Late evening drive to enjoy the last of the sunset, plane-less skies, and a search for Tawny Owls for the Atlas. Pairs of Tawny Owl at both Cathedine and Maesllechau (Bwlch E), and single hooting male at Craigllwyd Fawr (Bwlch S). Barn Owl and 3 Snipe at Cathedine.

At the pool Single YL with 36 BH Gull. Also 3 Gadwall, 18 Teal, the first Moorhen I've seen here this year and 2 singing Willow Warbler.
