BTO Summer Atlas restarted 1st April. Please contribute your sightings in April - July to the UK Atlas as a Roving Record. Details on the Home Page - very simple to do and of high value. Breeding records are particularly important - there are many areas of the county yet to confirm breeding of even common garden species. Even though the weather is far from summery, now is the best time to get records of resident species that breed early (eg Mistle Thrush), birds gathering nest material, and for making counts while the trees are bare (eg Rook nest counts). Thanks for whatever help you can give.

Great Grey Shrike - 1 seen briefly in hawthorn adjacent to small conifer clump past the cattlegrid at Penrhos. Settled in a Larch only to be mobbed by a Red Kite. looked for the bird again before dusk but no luck. In addition to this a Merlin perched in a mountain ash higher up the road near Ty Segur and a lovely male Wheatear on a nearby fence (my first back up here). Lots of Mipits on the move and 20+ Song Thrush. Not a bad 15 minute 'car birdwatch'!

Reed Bunting - a mini invasion up here lately. A single male on the lawn feeding with chaffinch yesterday was my first garden record in 9 years. In a nearby garden there were 10 more (8 male, 2 female) - the first records there for 4 years.
