Also a distant small Canada Goose standing with others by the red posts on the Crannog, probably the supposed Taverner's seen on 1 Feb.

One Little Ringed Plover on Llangasty spit. 16 Sand Martins appeared and flew out again. One White Wagtail with 12 Pied and 16 Meadow Pipits at SCM. Corvids taking off set me skywatching and a high Goshawk passed east. Also 2 Curlews, 2 Snipe, a Lapwing displaying, 19 Great Crested Grebes, a drake Pintail and plenty of courting Goldeneyes.

2x Curlew flying circuits around the Usk res. 18:25pm, wednesday 17th March. My 1st sighting here this year.

Flock of c300 Chaffinch with a few Siskin. Also GSW drumming.

Lapwing back on their breeding fields - too early to tell if numbers are down again. Three pairs displaying over Pontybat fields (Llanfilo) today was pleasing.

despite the cold winter it has not affected Dippers it seems. On my Dipper round today found 9 partly and fully built nests. Several Blabi seen carrying nesting material and single Kingfisher seen on R,Cnyffiad.

On the way to work this morning really good views of a male Merlin perched on a roadside post between Llandew and Oaklands Farm

2 Dipper; 3 pairs Mallard; 4 pairs Magpie; 14 Jackdaw; 2 pairs Mistle Thrush and 2 others in song; c.15 Redwing; 12+ Blackbird; 7 pairs Chaffinch and 2 more in song; c.10 Wood Pigeon in display flight; 2 separate Stock Dove singing in opposition; Green Woodpecker yaffling in distance; 12 pairs Blue Tit; 5 pairs Great Tit; 2 pairs Long-tailed Tit; 1 pair Coal Tit; Nuthatch calling; 2 pairs Goldcrest in vociferous display by river; 2 pairs Buzzard circling; 3 Red Kite circled, rising in thermal over Glangrwyney and flew off up the Usk Valley.
