A great day for shrikes today with 2 Great Greys seen. The first (many thanks to Steve) was at Usk Reservoir at SN828274 at the roadside by the brown 'Usk Res' sign. Coming home over Mynydd Illtyd a second bird was in the same area as last winters bird at SN981267.

Great Grey Shrike in clearfell adjacent to ' T ' junction (at entrance to reservoir road.) Showing well at times.

11 Golden Plover on Llandefalle Hill. 15 Buzzard were worming near Brecfa Pool. Tredomen chapel hosted 4 Yellowhammer with a Sparrowhawk nearby. 70 Siskin were in larch at Sennybridge show ground. 4 LT tit feeding on fat balls in Felinfach.

On the way home from work, stopped off to count an impressive gull roost; 3940 (or thereabouts) Herring Gull, 20 LBBGull, 5 BH Gull, 1 GBBGull. Also a wholly pale bird equal in size to a Herring Gull that is probably a leucistic H Gull (no 'scope). Last bird in at 17:51 hrs.

Of note 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Dipper, 1 Goosander, 1 Grey Heron, 5 Mallard, 3 Redwing, 3 Siskin, 6 Goldfinch, 2 Treecreeper, 11 LT Tit, 2 Coal Tit, 1 Marsh Tit, 1 Nuthatch and a GS Woodpecker.

Brief walk along canal - grey afternoon - poor light : - - party of 5 Jay; 1 Wren; 2 Robin; 2 Great Tit; 7 Blue Tit.

BTO TTV only produced 26 Crow, 2 Raven, 3 Buzzard and a Red Kite.

320 Wood Pigeon feeding on oilseed rape across the main road from Bronllys Hospital attracted the attention of both a male Goshawk and a female Sparrow Hawk this pm.

Walk westwards along M-B canal, SO21D from bridge 110 on a very grey afternoon produced a few birds = 2 Mallard; 40 Rook; 20 Jackdaw; party of 13+ Magpie seen up the hill at Wenllan; 2 Buzzard; 2 Tree Creeper; 4 Blue Tit; 2 Buzzard.

On a very grey afternoon a walk along the M-B canal in SO21I (EYE) [ can't we have a proper font please, such as Times New Roman ] - showed very few birds - limited list = i Treecreeper, i G-s Woodpecker, i Wren, i Buzzard.
