Green Woodpecker passed through garden. Also a Grey Wagtail on the 7th October.

The yellow wing-tagged Grey Heron 'BC' is back on his favoured perches at Brecon prom for his third sucessive winter. Also present 5 Goosander, 28 Mallard, 34 BH Gull, and singles of Dipper, Grey and Pied Wagtail as well as Red Admiral and Small Tortoiseshell butterflies.

Driving accross the common today a charm of 60-70 Goldfinch, 4 Snipe, pair Stonechat and 3 Red Kite. 20 Lapwing at Brecfa Pool first thing this morning.

Warm, damp and cloudy. - - 1600 - 1700 hrs: 1 Curlew at the Point; 1 Kestrel over; 25 mixed hirundines high over lake (c.5 Swallow, c.5 Sand Martin, c.15 House Martin); 50 Teal set off by windsurfer thingy/sail; 1 GB-b Gull. - - 1700 - 1815 hrs: From hide 52 Mute Swan seen & several hidden by reeds; Water Rail heard; 2 Reed Bunting; 16 martins over fields at dusk flying SE.

Usk Reservoir, sighting reported to me of a small 'heron like' bird...much smaller than a Heron, about 1/2 to 2/3rds the size with different markings though definatley a Heron. On the council road bridge over the Usk just below the Usk res.

Redwings -3 this morning. Already collected the sloes and the Gin is made! 5 House Martins on the 4th and a Sparrowhawk made an unsuccessful lunge at a bat over the garden at dusk.

Gull roost still there - it will be interesting to see where they go next time we get a decent wind! Easy to count incoming birds against a Spruce backdrop. Birds arriving until almost dark at 19.25 hrs. 1815 LBBGull, ca 50 BHGull and 1 YL Gull. Also 9 Canada Geese, 30 Cormorant, 15 Tufteds and 4 Tawnies calling.
