Hirundine ... no binoculars unfortunately but watched what was probably sand martin flying c. 100m away over field for c 30 secs at about 2:15 this afternoon ... very gloomy conditions and it eventually disappeared into the mist towards river Usk. Returned with bins and camera but no joy. Hopefully it will turn up at Llangorse.

Kingfisher - just 2 weeks after a major clean-up of our garden pond which had all but disappeared we have just had our first ever Kingfisher sighting in the garden. Perching in a willow and also on a bamboo stalk it dived into the pond once and flew out with something and flew off trailing some weed. It seemed to cause a lot of upset for other garden birds who alarmed continually during it's 15 minute stay. We're about 200 yards from a stream. Best sighting since the Water Rail of a few winters ago.

Otter. Standing in water on the wooden platform in front of the bird hide, I failed to notice what was swimming about 6 feet in front of me - a young Otter. As soon as I moved to photograph, it was gone.
