250 wintering thrushes, 80/20 split between Fieldfare/Redwing in a field between Llanddew and Llaneglwys, they've been in that field in varying numbers since October. Further on a flock of about 100 Siskins in the conifer plantation (Brycheiniog) also about twenty Crossbills coming to drink from a small but deep pool on the trackside, however, quite flighty. I suspect in the same area as Mark's photo.

A few minor records from the last week - kingfisher on Usk just south of Crickhowell Bridge on 15 Jan. Group of 15 or so cormorant dropping onto the river Usk at Cwrt y Gollen, Crickhowell on the 19th. Male and female goosander regularly on canal at Llangynidr over the last week and very tolerant of all the people and dogs that walk by. 6 greenfinch on feeder today is probably best count I have had in my garden for about three years.

Appreciate out of area but if anyone interested there is a pacific loon and a Siberian Chiffchaff at Kenfig pool. Both stumbled on today as we have been promising ourselves a walk around the NNR for too many years. The loon was happily amongst the major raft of ducks and the chiffchaff by the south hide. A great 5 mile or so walk around the reserve only spoilt by the scrambling motor bikes !!

Entry added by: Mark Spirito on Sun 9th January 22, 07:23pm Sighting location: Usk Reservoir. Sighting date: 9/1/22
