Sighting location: Mynydd Aberysgir - Llyn Dwr. Sighting date: 16/05/22
Explored an alternative route to Llyn Dwr today, taking the road from Mynydd Aberysgir to Cefn Bola-maen. Turning off the Aberbran-Cradoc road was immediately surprised to find an unexpected Rook colony of at least 14 nest structures and a few birds still present. Also a singing Spotted Flycatcher below them and ouse Martins present. The pleasing aspect of the climb up to the common land was the 6 Yellowhammer territories found during occasional stops over 4 1 km squares. The less said about the upland bird count and weather the better. Plently of Mipits and Skylark but no trace of Whinchat (multiple Stonechat territories) and nothing interesting on Llyn Dwr. On the way back the rain had dropped 5 migrant Wheatear, 3 of which were female.

Sighting location: Llangorse Lake. Sighting date: 16/05/22
2 Ringed Plover, at Llangasty point, with 4 Lapwing, also here a brownish looking Grey Heron, set my alarm bells ringing, looking very slim and nervous, it quickly took flight and had a definite brown to upperparts , flew over the lake over to the far side and disappeared, however I believe it to be simply a brownish Grey Heron rather than Purple Heron, may be worth looking out for, also near the sailing club, 3 LR Plover, and sedge warbler singing, near Bronllys now there are several Spotted Flycatcher and Common Whitethroat.

Sighting location: Trecastle. Sighting date: 14/05/22
Six Swifts over Trecastle yesterday, probably at the higher end of expectation for colony size for recent years. House Martin there not so healthy. Double figure Swift counts over Sennybridge but not had time for a good count yet as need a good panoramic view of whole village to scan the various sub-colonies. House Martins much better with 20+ birds at several sites in the village.
