Brief stop at Llangasty on the way back to Llangors this evening, in the light of the change of weather. Rewarded by great views of an adult Osprey which flew in from the west about 19.00, ignoring the mobbing gulls, hovered off the point for a few minutes, caught a fish and flew round to the south. with its supper . An experienced fisher! Bonus was a full breeding plumage 'islandica' Black- tailed Godwit feeding on the point. Also counted c. 250 Sand Martins feeding offshore and 2 Stock Doves flew over the church yard.

Entry added by: Gareth Rees on Wed 22nd June 22, 11:35pm Sighting location: Crai. Sighting date: 22/06/22
On the way back from Nightjar surveys at Coelbren where one churring plus 2 Grasshopper Warblers. On the way back I was also listening briefly at two boggy sites above Crai (drumming Snipe at each) after 23:00. At the site just above Crai I heard a series of fast repeated whistling calls, uttered just once fairly low over a recent clearfell. It slowly dawned on me that this was the call of a Whimbrel, so it appears return passage has begun. I am not over familiar with Whimbrel, as I don't see them that often, but checking vocals online it is an exact match.

Recent balmy evenings have encouraged Swift to fly well past 9pm; counts include 18 over Hay-on-Wye (in 4 areas), 9 around Glasbury Church and 8 at Pennorth Chapel. These counts will be submitted, with others, to Brecon Swift Group who are encouraging counts in our main towns and villages in the county.

Another corpse in the garden to follow the bramblings earlier in the year. This time a male Siskin. I believe Fowl pest is still rampant this year ? At last the Spotted Flycatchers have made an appearance here.

Entry added by: Andrew King on Fri 17th June 22, 10:48pm Sighting location: Talybont Forest. Sighting date: 16/06/22
Checked some Nightjar sites in Talybont Forest. No churring heard at several locations; single churring birds were heard at one new and one regular site. Whilst at one of these I was enjoying watching the 'lekking' display flight of 150+ Ghost moths dancing low over a field due for silage, then realised that 2 female Nightjar were busy feeding on them. Effective foraging for a short period at 10.15pm off nest?

Entry added by: Colin Everett on Fri 17th June 22, 11:36am Sighting location: Glasbury. (SO176383) Sighting date: 17/06/22
