An unexpected end to a Snipe survey in the upper Tawe area was hearing a single burst rapid triple piping calls from an overflying Greenshank at Bwlch, just above Glyntawe (SN8619) at 22:10. I immediately suspected Greenshank but as I have not heard one in a couple of years I've just checked the calls on Xeno-Canto and it is an exact match.

Bird hide. Great to see the Llangorse Lake bird hide open again. There are sensible Covid notices outside and lots of fresh air inside. Sadly I failed to see anything of interest from it!

Entry added by: Gareth Rees on Sat 1st May 21, 03:00pm Sighting location: Yr Allt, Sennybridge. Sighting date: 01/05/21
8 Tree Pipit territories were logged on the 1 km square, with an additional 3 territories on the square to the west (a total of 14 birds were encountered). One a large area of clearfell that was occupied last year had no activity, but that was under grey skies just after a hail shower. Interestingly, of a pair that were feeding in sparse oak woodland, one was seen to be wearing a metal ring. No Wood Warbler activity, Pied Flycatchers were at 2-3 sites, Redstarts seemed sparser than normal.
