The RSPB have been monitoring satellite tagged returning Hen Harriers one of which is a male named "Apollo". Yesterday they were in northern France and this morning at 10:23 Apollo flew from Newport up and over the Brecon Beacons and probably straight over my house! A little more information and maps can be found on the RSPB twitter feed here https://twitter.com/rspbcymru and Apollo's life story can be read here https://community.rspb.org.uk/ourwork/skydancer/b/skydancer/posts/apollo-arrives-in-portugal

Hobby flying overhead, being mobbed by jackdaw, heading towards Llanfilo. Lesser whitethroat has been singing in the hedgerow for past fortnight, annoyingly remaining hidden from sight.

Walking the lanes to Llangasty today: single Whitethroat in roadside hedge, and good numbers of Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Garden Warbler (2) and Redstart (2). Greenfinches & Goldfinches at the Church. Lake very quiet - indeed only GCGrebes in improved numbers (24) but hard to say yet if they will benefit from no boats/tourists here or they have yet to move out onto local reservoirs etc. 4-5 Lapwing, 4 Curlew and 5 Whimbrel on the Point. Two singing Pied Flycatchers (my first!).
