21 Tufted ducklings with 3 females. Each female has a brood of 7. The 2 new broods are very young and when together difficult to count as they are endlessly diving! Also a Little Grebe and 28 Coot. A presumed family party of 3 Sparrowhawk were flushed together nearby.

Adding to the wader action a single Green Sandpiper was present on flooded, re-seeded pipeline track at Trephilip at 20:10. It spend most of its time along and occasionally well within a hedge bordering the flood pool.

Entry added by: Gareth Rees on Sun 26th July 09, 12:10am Sighting location: Crai reservoir. Sighting date: 26/07/09
Obviously a flux of Oystercatchers coming through as 3 were roosting with 360 Lesser Black Back Gulls (around a third were sub-adult) and a single adult Great BBG at Crai reservoir dam this evening. Also 18 Goosander. At 21:16 the Oystercatchers did a circuit of the reservoir and I scoped three small ducks in the fading light. Even at distance they looked like a female Teal with two slightly smaller (c10%) and darker ducklings. They obligingly moved closer enabling confirmation of identity and proving breeding for this or a nearby tetrad (in SN82).

Entry added by: Keith Noble on Sat 25th July 09, 10:45pm Sighting location: Llangasty. Sighting date: 25/07/09
At 8.00 this evening, while Andrew was watching 7 at Talybont, there were still 2 Oystercatchers here, 6 Common Sandpipers, 5 Lapwings, 2 Redshanks. The one Kestrel I saw circling looked like an adult with worn wings and tail. I heard lots of calling. Beware the Mallard with white tertials doing a bad impression of a Gadwall.

Entry added by: Andrew King on Sat 25th July 09, 09:46pm Sighting location: Talybont reservoir. Sighting date: 25/07/09
By 8pm tonight the 6 Oystercatchers seen by Steve at Llangasty at lunchtime today, had increased to 7 and relocated to the rocky shore of the SE corner of Talybont Reservoir. Also 57 Tufties, 37 CGeese and 3 LGrebe there. This morning there were 10 Crossbills in the conifer forestry at the top of the Dyffryn Crawnon valley, Llangynidr.
