A Rough legged buzzard would be extremely rare and unusual at this time of year and in wales. most records come from the east coast during the winter. you bird was probably a common buzzard with similar plumage to a RLB.

Possible rough legged buzzard. Spent the afternoon on Wed failing to find the Roller, but had a very good view, from above, of a buzzard with a white tail with a single dark terminal band. It was between the lower path and the water, and changed trees, flight was a lazy glide but it landed out of sight. Appeared more shy than a common. My field guide has it as a rough legged buzzard, any confirmation? Would be a first for me.

The Roller was on the north Carms bank of the reservoir at 10am this morning. Park at the watertower on the north shore and walk westwards for 0.75 mile taking the lower of the two forestry roads. Just before an area of windblown spruces there is a group of 10 or so poplars between the track and the reservoir. The Roller was in one of these.
